Who Am i?

Hello Everyone!

My name is Scott Ashworth, and I live in Atlanta, GA, with my wife and two little boys. I am a physical security specialist. I hold a bachelor degree in criminology from Clayton State University and a masters degree in criminal justice - leadership from Southern New Hampshire University. Prior to my past six years serving as a leader in the corporate security space I was in Law Enforcement for nearly a decade.

I started my law enforcement career after five years as a manager in the hospitality industry. I spent around ten years as a full-time law enforcer for the Forest Park Police Department, a city located on the southeast border of Atlanta, an area of Atlanta well known for its high crime.

In 2017, I was the lieutenant over investigations when I started looking into the private sector. I completed the FBI application process and had several private sector roles presenting, and I was at a crossroads. One opportunity stood out as unique.

On that Memorial Day, I decided to leave full-time law enforcement after being offered the opportunity to run security for Atlanta United FC, a brand new Major League Soccer Franchise. It was the organization's first year, season, and games.

That inaugural season would see Atlanta United FC become a sports juggernaut. A soccer team in Atlanta sold out Mercedes-Benz Stadium, a nearly two billion dollar brand new stadium with 72,500 fans.

Captaining a new and growing security program aimed at protecting a skyrocketing brand was intense and allowed me to learn sports security quickly. Learning in the trenches can teach a person far more than cracking open a book or sitting through a lecture.

After four years, I saw the Atlanta United FC security program had matured into one respected across sports.

Another opportunity to build a security program from scratch presented itself. This time it was an ambitious new sports media company looking to disrupt the sports world. That company was Overtime, and they were launching a new sports league named Overtime Elite.

It was gratifying to see the launch of the league and its phenomenal growth over its first year. Over the first six months, Overtime built an arena, school, offices, and dormitories in the popular Atlantic Station neighborhood of Midtown Atlanta. Spearheading the security engineering of these assets while simultaneously building out policies and procedures rivaling those of major sports leagues was highly challenging.

Once again, I was thrilled to see another successful and highly effective security program significantly impact its company and the sports field.

I am not the most successful cop, accomplished security professional, or great sports security mind, but I have been successful in my career to this point. I encountered the success I have with the guidance of those who did it before me. Therefore, I am dedicated to efforts like The Sentry Post to repay the universe for my fortunate path.

With my twenty years of leadership experience, thirteen years of law enforcement work, and six years in captaining security programs for major sports teams and leagues, I hope my stories can help motivate, inspire, and educate.

I hope you enjoy and I also look forward to hearing your stories.
